Policy Positions

Economic Policy

  • For tax reductions and simplifications for middle class Americans and businesses; supports reducing government regulations on farmers and small businesses

Business & Labor

  • For antitrust enforcement; voted for the Merger Filing Fee Modernization Act of 2022 to crack down on anti-competitive corporate behavior

Health Care

  • Against the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare); supports repealing it and replacing with market-based reforms including removing state-by-state insurance restrictions, tort reform, and healthcare savings accounts
  • For reforming Medicare and Social Security through incremental changes to ensure long-term solvency, while protecting benefits for those 55 and older

Environment

  • For expanded domestic energy production including oil, gas, nuclear, coal, hydroelectric, and renewables; supports streamlining oil exploration regulations

Civil Rights

  • Against abortion rights; publicly identifies as pro-life, voted for late-term abortion ban, yet privately pressured his ex-wife to terminate two pregnancies and pressured a mistress (who was also his patient) to get an abortion
  • Against establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday; voted against the legislation in June 2021

Voting Rights & Democracy

  • For contesting the 2020 presidential election results; signed an amicus brief in December 2020 supporting Texas v. Pennsylvania

Immigration & Foreign Affairs

  • Against illegal immigration; supports physical border barriers and enforcement of immigration law in partnership with state and local law enforcement
  • Against increasing special immigrant visas for Afghan allies of the U.S. military; voted against the ALLIES Act in July 2021
