Policy Positions

For increased infrastructure funding and investment in Shelby County, including permanently redirecting tax revenue from new tire sales to TDOT for local roads and bridges, securing over $800 million in infrastructure investments (including a $250 million new I-55 Mississippi River bridge, replacement of the Shady Grove Road bridge over I-240, and resurfacing of I-40, Poplar Avenue, and Germantown Parkway), and obtaining a $20 million grant for the Memphis Zoo.

For reducing local government regulatory authority, including prohibiting local governments from adding new labor regulations to government projects.

For increased state oversight and accountability of Memphis-Shelby County Schools, including backing a $6 million forensic audit of the district, and for directing an additional $3 million to "High-Achieving School Districts" in Arlington, Collierville, Germantown, and Lakeland.

For a comprehensive "law and order" crime agenda, including advocating for the Safe Memphis Task Force and Operation Viper, increasing the number of State Troopers assigned to Shelby County, removing homeless encampments throughout Memphis, adding dedicated state crime lab scientists to process Memphis-based evidence, sponsoring a law prohibiting local governments from banning routine police traffic stops, sponsoring a law prohibiting consideration of a defendant's ability to pay when setting bail, sponsoring a law prioritizing "safety of the community" in bail decisions, filing complaints against two judges perceived as soft on crime (resulting in their early retirements), and sponsoring a "blended sentencing" law allowing juvenile offenders to receive both a juvenile sentence and an adult sentence upon turning 19.
