Policy Positions

Economic Policy

  • For increasing housing supply and construction by cutting red tape to address housing affordability crisis
  • For increasing quality childcare programs and addressing childcare affordability
  • For expanding broadband internet access in rural communities through bipartisan legislation and state-level grant programs
  • Against radical efforts to put retirement and earned benefits of Virginians at risk
  • For repealing the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) that reduced Social Security benefits for public service employees

Business & Labor

  • For establishing a statewide paid family and medical leave program
  • For raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour

Environment

  • For long-term sustainable energy independence to lower rates for consumers and create job security
  • For clean energy development including offshore wind, rooftop solar, and other renewable energy sources; supported clean energy incentives and electric vehicle deployment
  • Against offshore drilling off Virginia's coastline
  • For conservation programs and led the largest federal investment in conservation programs since the Dust Bowl through the Inflation Reduction Act

Civil Rights

  • For reproductive rights including the right to contraception, right to choose, and right to access IVF; voted to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law and will work to codify reproductive rights in Virginia Constitution
  • For same-sex marriage equality; voted for federal legislation protecting same-sex and interracial couples and supports removing the ban on marriage equality from Virginia's Constitution
  • For LGBTQ+ rights protections; opposes discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in government services and employment
  • For providing recycled federal computers to veterans for employment opportunities
  • For providing retired police officers and firefighters with access to tax benefits to help cover health insurance premiums

Voting Rights & Democracy

  • For voting rights restoration; voted twice for full restoration and modernization of the Voting Rights Act and supports adding voting rights restoration amendment to Virginia Constitution
  • For banning Members of Congress and their spouses from buying, selling, or trading individual stocks

Public Safety

  • For strengthening Virginia's safe storage laws to prevent gun violence
  • For providing law enforcement with training, tools, and resources including funding for hiring, training, and benefits for officers
  • For comprehensive approach to fentanyl crisis including cracking down on illicit drugs and providing addiction treatment and recovery services
  • For closing background check loopholes, investing in mental health resources, and encouraging red flag laws adoption
  • For strengthening Virginia's safe storage laws and supporting ban on manufacturing, sale, and transfer of assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines
  • For federal standards for safe gun storage, raising federal age to purchase assault-style rifles to 21, and preventing illegal gun trafficking
